REVIEW: TRANSGRESSION – “Power Shift” EP

Transgression
Power Shift EP

As most things related to hardcore and/or metal these days, I’m a bit late to the party with TRANSGRESSION. I first caught wind of them and the music they make when I saw that they were opening for By the Grace of God a couple weekends ago. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get there early enough to catch their set as I was stuck at work, but that didn’t stop me from checking out Power Shift, their new three song EP that is currently streaming and available as a free download on Bandcamp.

Simply put, the music presented is fucking brutal — a sludge-tastic, head exploding 6 minutes of simplistic, slowed down chug chug riffs and growling vocals that would effectively scratch the collective itch of fans of both Cannibal Corpse and Knocked Loose. This ain’t anything new per say, but god damn do these folks pull off what they do extremely well.

Aside from these three songs, I don’t know much about this band. According to their Bandcamp bio, TRANSGRESSION is “a collective of queers- screaming, yelling, and refusing to be silenced.” Fuck yeah, sounds good to me. I’m looking forward to hearing more from them and hopefully catching one of their sets in the near future as this new noise fucking rips.
